About Ghoom monastery

In the year of 1850, famous Mongolian astrologer Shokpo Sherab Gyatso came here to spread Buddhism and establishes the Yiga Choling Monastery. The construction of the monastery was after Tibetan sculpture, depicting the lessons of Buddhism. Sherab Gyatso was the head of the monastery from 1850 to 1905. Later, he was being succeeded by Lama Domo Geshe Rinpoche in the year 1909.

Inside the monastery there is a 15 ft. huge statue of 'Maitreya Buddha'. The gold paint statute is coated with very precious stones. The Buddha idol is the symbolic version of 'Future Buddha' or also known as Gwalwa Shampa. This is a great attraction for travel enthusiasts across the country.

Tibetan New Year

In the Tibetan terminology, the Tibetan New Year or Losar is a traditional ritual lasts for four days. Meanwhile, the monks chant the prayers and offer a holy substance known as Torma. Making it by butter and flour to destroy the evil spirits of earth and welcome the new days with great happiness and prosperity. On the mid-end of February from 19th- 24th the entire ceremony takes place where the main worship occurs on the 22nd of February.

His Holiness Dalai Lama's Birth Anniversary

Every year on 6th July the monastery celebrates the birth anniversary of the great Dalai Lama. The monastery arranges a day ceremony where they pray for his long as well as prosperous life. The local devotees also join the monastery to celebrate the holy ceremony on this day.

Kangyur

Also known as Kanjur is the sacred texts of Tibetan Buddhist. After the Chinese invasion in the year of 1959, Kangyur is safely in the Ghoom Monastery. Kangyur and Tengyur are the two divisions of the holy manuscript under the Bon religion. This is one of the most precious Tibetan manuscripts.
