The three-section garden was under the supervision of Sir George King, then the superintendent of the garden.

Exploring the Lloyd Botanical Garden

The garden has a division of three major segments. The upper, middle and the lower sections.

The Upper Section

In the upper section, you can see the various indigenous Himalayan plantations. This is the primary part of the garden. To study the floras of Darjeeling Himalayan region it is the starter point. Meanwhile, in this section, you will be witnessing rhododendrons brought from Sikkim. Stroll through the garden and have a view of the colorful rhododendrons as well as the other herbs.

The Middle Section

This section offers you the large numbers of coniferous and fern trees and the collection of Alpine trees as well. There is a specific section of the greenhouse or the conservatory where you can see 150 different species of Cactus. On the other hand, the Orchidarium has some 2,500 orchids on display and showcasing 50 varieties. Most of the orchids have been brought from the Singalila National Park.

The garden remains open from morning 9:00 a.m. to evening 5:00 p.m. It is open to visitors.

Location

The garden is located beneath the Eden Sanitarium or known as Shaheed Durga Mall district hospital. From the Darjeeling taxi stand in chowk bazaar, the garden is just a walking distance away. There are four main gates to the garden. These are in Lochnagar, Chandmari, Pound Road and Steinthal.
